RS1 later took the name \"Colin Archer\" after its designer and builder. The ship’s sharp double-ended stern design has given it worldwide fame. Around 30 boats of this type were built, most of them at the Colin Archer yard at Tollerodden in Larvik.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003eRS1 Colin Archer has had an eventful past. After 40 years as a rescue ship, it was sold in 1933 to private owners who added a small auxiliary engine. It crossed the Atlantic in 1938, suffered severe storm damage in North Carolina in October 1954, and was found as a wreck in the Potomac River in 1960. After 23 years in the USA, Colin Archer was returned to Norway in December 1961 as deck cargo on the freighter \"MS Tasco\". A series of owners followed – through both good times and hard times.
