Every day is a great day to fly your Ugears Mad Hornet vintage racer. Inspired by the Granville Brothers' Gee Bee Model R-1 Super Sportster and other vintage racing planes from the 1930s, the Mad Hornet Airplane has a fat, teardrop-shaped fuselage and a cockpit placed well to the rear to give the pilot a better view.

The Ugears Mad Hornet Airplane is a medium-difficulty DIY wooden model with 354 parts.

The model plane is powered by a spiral spring motor of the kind often used in clockwork and other precision instruments. Various gear sets transfer power from the spring to the moving parts of the plane. The Mad Hornet has two modes: pre-flight check mode and taxi mode. Choose the mode by setting the rotating drum to one of two positions. Insert the special key into the stopper opening, then give the winding cord up to 21 pulls. Place the plane on a flat surface, then remove the key and watch your Mad Hornet come to life. In check mode the propeller spins while the wing flaps and the rudder tilt, before the plane automatically switches to taxiing across the airfield to the runway. In taxi mode your plane starts taxiing straight away and travels up to 2.5 metres!

No glue or other special tools are needed to assemble the Mad Hornet plane. You simply press the parts out of the sheets and add a little time, focus and care – and you too can become a Mad Hornet sports plane pilot.
