The Hangar 9 Valiant 10cc is the smaller version of the legendary giant-scale Valiant, built to make full use of smaller engines – without compromising the flight characteristics that made its big brother so popular. The plane is designed for a 10cc petrol engine such as the Evolution 10GX, but also accepts brushless electric power systems without modification, thanks to the included electric motor mount.

The airframe is made from laser-cut, lightweight balsa and plywood and covered in genuine Hangar 9 UltraCote, giving a durable plane with a great classic look that is also easy to maintain. The two-piece, cantilevered plug-in wing makes field assembly quick and removes the need for wing struts, while working flaps expand the flight envelope and add STOL capability for short take-off and landing distances.

The wide, painted aluminium landing gear gives excellent ground handling, and with wheel pants and a painted fibreglass cowl the plane looks clean and well finished. A large front hatch gives easy access and quick flight battery changes. The underside has factory-installed mounting points for the optional float set, so the plane can quickly be converted to fly from water.

With its semi-symmetrical wing profile, the Valiant 10cc offers excellent stability and good wind penetration, making it pleasant to fly even in less than ideal wind conditions. With the flaps up it is a sporty aerobatic dream machine with big loops, crisp rolls and good rudder authority for knife-edge passes – a model that gives a solid, almost giant-scale feel in the air.
