Description

This model, which is unique in terms of technology and precision, consists of more than 500 parts, some of which must be assembled with screws. The bonnet can be opened to reveal the highly detailed engine, and it features working steering.


The unique racing car "Eldridge", derived from the old Fiat SB4 chassis, became known as Mefistofele because of the infernal noise emitted by its powerful 6-cylinder inline engine, which produced a capacity of over 20,000 cm3, undampened by exhaust silencers that were kept "free" to deliver the most significant performance. On 12 July 1924 in Arpajon, Mefistofele, driven by its pilot and designer Ernest Eldridge, reached the then-incredible speed of 146.01 miles per hour (over 230 km/h), setting the world land speed record with an impressive result. Mefistofele was characterised by its tall body, which housed the powerful liquid-cooled Fiat A-12 engine, and its structure was specially designed to achieve the speed record.
