Description

The JSF Joint Strike Fighter programme was established to develop a new fifth-generation all-weather multirole combat aircraft to replace existing US and NATO fighter aircraft. A team from the aviation industry, led by Lockheed Martin, developed the single-seat, single-engine F-35 Lightning II. It employs stealth technology and is characterised by its trapezoidal wings and the use of the most advanced high-tech materials and avionics systems. It has been developed to carry out air superiority, close air support and ground attack missions and has been designed in several configurations. The F-35A is the conventional take-off and landing variant, the F-35B is the short take-off and vertical landing variant, and the F-35C, with folding wings, is developed for use from conventional carriers. Thanks to its operational flexibility, advanced built-in technology and impressive project innovation, the F-35 Lightning II will be a benchmark aircraft in 21st-century military aviation.
