Description

The AV-8B Harrier II multirole attack and close air-support aircraft was born out of cooperation between the British and American aerospace industries. It represents a significant development compared with the first aircraft in the Harrier family for short take-off and vertical landing (V/STOL). The AV-8B was developed and deployed to operate from aircraft carriers without catapults, from amphibious assault ships, and from improvised landing strips. Thanks to these characteristics, it has been widely used by the United States Marine Corps, including in operational contexts. The AV-8B is capable of carrying an offensive payload consisting of air-to-air missiles, guided bombs and air-to-ground missiles, and is characterised by significant operational flexibility and the ability to perform numerous types of missions.
