Description

The project for the innovative Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey was established during the 1980s, but it was only after a long and complex development process lasting over twenty years that it began to be issued to the operational units of the US armed forces. The Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft fitted with two tilting engines with large three-bladed propellers, enabling it to land and take off vertically like a helicopter while having flight and transfer performance comparable to a conventional propeller aircraft. Version A is the original version used for operational testing, aimed at improving the mechanical, engine and electronic components subsequently used in series production. The Osprey took part in its first operational missions in an Iraq War scenario in 2008.
