DHC-6 Twin Otter, West Coast Air, Victoria Harbour, Canada, October 2006. The Twin Otter is a highly versatile aircraft that can be used in transport, reconnaissance or rescue roles, operating on wheels, skis or floats. The Twin Otter first flew in May 1965. Production of the 100 series began in 1966, and 115 Twin Otters were built before it was replaced by the 200 series with an extended nose. It has excellent STOL characteristics and is used in both civilian and military roles. The aircraft received PT6A engines delivering 652 hp and could carry a 2.6-tonne payload. The Twin Otter is a highly versatile aircraft that can be used on wheels, skis or with float gear.
