Description

Development of the medium tank Panzerkampfwagen III began in the mid-1930s with the intention of making it the backbone of the Wehrmacht's armoured units. It was a key player in the Blitzkrieg and the early stages of the Second World War. Over time, in its various production versions, it adopted more effective main armament. From 37 mm in the early production series, it was fitted with guns of up to 75 mm calibre, allowing it to engage superior armoured vehicles. Throughout the war, it was also upgraded in armour and often fitted with additional protection to increase its battlefield survivability. However, from 1943 onwards, the technological gap compared with opposing tanks gradually led to the Panzer III being replaced by more modern and heavily armed vehicles.


The finished model measures 12.2 cm.
