The Bismarck was the largest and most famous battleship in the German Kriegsmarine during the Second World War. With over 50,000 tonnes displacement, massive armament and technical superiority, she became a symbol of German naval power. Her first and only mission, Operation Rheinübung, ended dramatically after the sinking of the British battlecruiser Hood. Pursued by the British fleet, Bismarck was unable to manoeuvre after a torpedo hit and was eventually scuttled by her own crew. Her fate fascinates model builders and historians to this day – making her one of the most important ships in naval history.
