Description

“WINSTON CHURCHILL”, later called “ZEELAND”, was built during the Second World War and fitted with a steam engine. She was in fact the last steam-powered coastal tugboat built for the Dutch company Goedkoop in Amsterdam. The vessel was later sold to the Dutch company Willem Muller in Terneuzen in 1964, where she was fitted with a diesel engine and renamed “ZEELAND”. She was scrapped in 1997 in Dordrecht, Holland.

One of the ship's captains, Henk de Winde, says:
“She was a difficult lady to deal with, but after 25 years of happy marriage I know she was something very special, and I'm still not sure which of us came out on top.”
