TRX-4 Ford F-150 '79 trail truck/crawler – RTR

Can you make a '79 pickup that looks like the real thing and also handles the terrain? Traxxas says YES! The body is pre-painted with clear windows, Ranger XLT trim, shiny chrome bumpers, chrome mouldings and side markers – and it sits on shiny chrome mag wheels. Look closer and you will find a detailed two-tone grille, windscreen wipers and door handles. The body is clipless, so there are no body clips to spoil the scale look. We at Hobbyviking are, honestly, a little in love.

But it also has to drive. The portal axles raise the ground clearance to 80 mm in the centre and give a ride that simply works over rocks and ledges. Both the front and rear axles are fully locked (spool) – there is no slip, so all four wheels pull equally. The stock wheels carry sticky 1.9" Canyon Trail™ tyres. The gearbox is single speed, which cuts weight from the chassis and gives better weight distribution and a lower centre of gravity. In other words, it drives more easily and more precisely. Steel gears inside make it Traxxas-Tough, and it is practically maintenance-free. That is clever!

The electronics are ready from the factory: waterproof XL-5 HV speed controller, Titan 21T motor, a digital high-torque metal-gear servo and a TQ 2.4 GHz transmitter with cruise control, so you can roll calmly along a long trail without keeping your finger on the throttle all the time.
