The Leopard 2, which entered service between the late ’70s and early ’80s, is considered one of the best armoured vehicles in the world. It was developed to provide the German "Bundeswehr" with a powerful and modern main battle tank able to replace the Leopard 1. The main armament is a 120 mm
Rheinmetall L/55 smoothbore gun.

Despite its heavy armour, the Leopard 2 is capable of reaching a considerable speed of 65 km/h, and it performs well on all kinds of terrain. From the first versions, the MBT has been constantly improved and updated. The Leopard 2A4, one of the most widely used versions, adopts an advanced fire control system and modern high-tech materials that increase its protective capability.

Beyond Germany, the Leopard 2 achieved good commercial success in many countries such as the Netherlands, Turkey, Austria, Greece and many others.
