Description

Ugears Tachometer from the STEM Lab collection

The Tachometer is a fully working wooden model of a tachometer, the device designed to measure the rotational speed of different parts in engines and other mechanisms. A tachometer calculates revolutions per minute (RPM). It also measures and monitors load limits so that RPM can be reduced or increased and the engine or mechanism runs within its optimal parameters.

  • Model size: 24x10.3x12.3cm
  • Package size: 20.5x18.8x6.3cm
  • Number of parts: 133
  • Est. assembly time: 2-3 hours

Build the Tachometer and get an insight into the mechanics behind it!
  • The model kit comes with a QR code that shows you how the mechanism works and challenges you with a few tasks.
  • Dive into augmented reality and learn more about the functions via a special AR app.
Mechanical learning
A tachometer is designed to measure/count the rotational speed of different parts.
It calculates revolutions per minute (RPM), and with the included QR code you learn how everything in the mechanism fits together.

Who invented the tachometer?

The tachometer was invented by the German engineer Dietrich Uhlhorn in 1817. His invention was a special device that measured centrifugal force. From 1840 this device was used in railway locomotives and later in cars and all kinds of vehicle transport.

How is the tachometer used?

The tachometer is used in mechanisms where RPM must be tracked accurately to avoid the negative effects of overload. Experienced drivers use tachometers to know when to change gear (in cars with a manual gearbox) and to control the load on the engine, which extends the life of their vehicles.

STEM Lab model kits have everything you need in the box.
Like the rest of the Ugears wooden model kits, building STEM Lab models is fun and comprehensive: everything you need to build, learn and discover comes in the box.
Inside you will find:

  • Wooden parts cut with a precise high-tech laser from high-quality plywood sheets, plus the other materials needed for assembly. The DIY kits need no glue or additional tools to assemble. The parts come out of the board with a light press.
  • Step-by-step illustrated instructions for the 3D puzzle.
  • Practical lab tasks using your model.
  • QR code to download a pocket study guide about the Ugears model, its mechanism, its working principle, main properties, physical and mechanical formulas and fun practical tasks.
  • QR code to download the AR app. A fascinating innovation from Ugears – a new drive to learn more new things!
