Description

"Torborg" is a classic Norwegian rowing and sailing boat. This type of boat is known across large parts of Norway and was used for many purposes. The original, dating from 1870, is owned by the Stavanger Maritime Museum. This type of boat was used as a pilot boat. They were rigged so they could quickly reach the waiting ship that needed a pilot. It was a race to be the one allowed to pilot the ships into the fjords. It was essential to have good, manoeuvrable and fast boats which, besides sails, were equipped with 2–3 pairs of oars.
