Description

The McDonnell Douglas F-15 is a single-seat "all-weather" fighter aircraft designed and built to gain and maintain "air superiority". The F-15 Eagle was developed in the 1970s to equip US Air Force squadrons with an advanced, high-performance fighter. In its development, represented by the "C" version, the F-15 is still widely used by the US Air Force, the Air National Guard, and the air forces of Israel, Japan and Saudi Arabia. The F-15C took an active part in the first Gulf War, securing air superiority for coalition forces by achieving the highest number of kills against enemy aircraft. Armed with a 20 mm M61 cannon, it can carry a wide range of air-to-air missiles. Its two powerful Pratt & Whitney F100 afterburning engines allow the F-15C to reach speeds of Mach 2.5.
