Description

The 1967 Daytona 24 Hours saw a hard fight between the best American and European sports racing cars. While the Europeans eventually triumphed and filled the top three places, the mighty Ford MkIIs put up strong resistance on home ground, with Foyt and Gurney's car qualifying on pole before retiring with a broken rod. But the Americans did not rely only on the mighty Fords; the powerful winged Chaparral was also in the fight, second on the grid, together with the more conventional 2D.

But it was not to be for the Americans. The powerful V12s of the red cars fielded by the Europeans proved to be the class of the field, with the open Spyder car taking the win, followed by two more red V12s. It was a dominant performance, but it would not be repeated, as the American cars, this time the mighty Ford MkIVs, triumphed at Sebring and Le Mans.
