The BMW i8 is the embodiment of a forward-looking sports car with the latest in revolutionary technology. The rear axle of the plug-in hybrid is driven by a 3-cylinder engine which, despite having a capacity of only 1.5 litres, still produces as much as 170kW (231hp) and a torque of 320Nm using two turbochargers. The front axle draws power from an electric motor producing 96kW (131hp). The interaction between the two motors is optimally coordinated thanks to an intelligent energy management system. The result: genuine sports car performance combined with fuel consumption and emissions figures typical of a small car. The i8 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.4 seconds and can reach the usual BMW top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
