Drilling small holes in plastic models and wood becomes much easier with a small electric drill in your hand. This one from Tamiya comes as a kit, so you screw it together yourself before you get started. It is controlled with a trigger, so you can meter the speed precisely.

A 2 mm drill bit and two types of chuck are included, and the drill takes bits from 1 mm to 3 mm in diameter.
