Horten Go 229

Revell Horten Go 229 – plastic model kit

Towards the end of the Second World War, the brothers Reimar and Walter Horten were among Germany's best-known designers of flying wings. In the special unit Sonderkommando 9 they developed tailless all-wing aircraft, and work on the Horten Ho IX with two BMW 003A-1 jet engines began in 1942. Because of engine problems, the first aircraft could only be built as gliders, but the second prototype received a Jumo 004B-1 engine, and in 1944 the V2 made its first flight, reaching over 780 km/h.

Production was moved to Gothaer Waggonfabrik, and the type was given the designation Go 229. The first aircraft built there, the Go 229 A-O V3, was fitted with a Jumo 004-C engine.
