Traxxas Slash 2WD brushless short course truck – RTR

The Slash is the car that defined short course RC racing – and now Traxxas has given it a new Velineon 3S brushless power system. Put in an 11.1 volt LiPo and it runs at over 80 km/h. Do you have to swap gears first? NO! It is geared for full speed straight out of the box. The power components keep their cool too: the VX3 speed controller is fan-cooled, and the V3200 motor has a built-in fan, so you get long run times without anything overheating. Programming is handled with Traxxas EZ-Set – one button, done. Clever!

Speed without control just gets expensive, so the body is new and aerodynamic: it keeps the front end planted at high speed and gives more downforce, so it runs straight and steady. The chassis has a lower centre of gravity, which makes it sharp in the corners, and the suspension has been retuned for an extra-soft ride over the bumps. The new composite GTR shocks sit on all four corners and hold over 70 % more oil than the familiar Ultra Shocks. X-ring seals keep the oil in and the dirt out, spring preload and ride height are set on a threaded collar, and the spring retainers are screwed in place so they do not pop off in the middle of a jump.

The steering has been upgraded too: a new metal-gear servo, improved bellcrank steering and a cam-style servo saver that makes the steering more precise while protecting the servo from shocks when you hit a kerb. The body is held in place with strong clipless latches – no pins to lose in the grass, and they open in a flash when the battery needs changing. At Hobbyviking we think this is the best Slash in a long time.
