"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…" These words of poet Emma Lazarus are the welcoming invitation of the colossal goddess of liberty presiding over New York harbor. She has come to symbolize New York City, the United States of America and the hope of freedom to people around the world.

Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the United States to commemorate the centennial of U.S. independence. Originally a dull copper color, the statue soon took on a green patina. She holds a torch representing progress, and a tablet representing the rule of law, on which is inscribed the date of the Declaration of Independence: July 4, 1776. Her crown has seven rays, evoking the sun, the seven seas, and the seven continents—Lady Liberty extends her light to the entire world. Under her feet lies a broken chain, representing the emancipation of slaves. It took six years to raise the funds to build the pedestal, and the completed statue was dedicated in 1886.

The Ugears Statue of Liberty model, from the World Cities collection, is a 1:575 scale wooden DIY model of the iconic statue and stands 145 mm high. With 46 pieces made of art-quality composite wood, the Statue of Liberty is rated "Easy" and can be built in about 25 minutes. You won't need glue or special tools to build the model, just push the pieces out of their laser pre-cut boards and snap them together. Illustrated instructions in 11 languages (English, German, Ukrainian, French, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Chinese and Korean) guide your build.
