The T-34 was one of the most famous tanks produced during the Second World War and was the backbone of the Soviet army throughout the conflict. One of the key innovations introduced by the T-34 design was the sloped front armour, which provided a greater degree of protection against direct hits. The adoption of wide tracks gave excellent mobility across all types of terrain, including mud and snow. The first version of the T-34, armed with a 76 mm short-barrelled gun, gained an immediate advantage over the most common German tanks of the time, such as the Panzer III and Panzer IV. Thanks to its 12-cylinder diesel engine, the tank was able to reach a maximum speed of 55 km/h. In terms of sheer operational effectiveness, it was considered the best tank of the Second World War.
