Learn about the Curvimeter's design and how it works:
Map measurer, curvimeter or opisometer – the device goes by many names – is an instrument that measures the length of curved lines and helps you calculate the distance between points on a map more accurately than a ruler or a compass.

The mechanism has a measuring wheel, a dial and a pointer. As the wheel moves along the line on the map that you want to measure, the pointer moves around the dial, which is marked with units – centimetres, inches and so on. At the end, all you need to do is check the map's scale and multiply your reading by the denominator of the scale.

Use the map measurer when you plan a hike with your friends or a family trip – it will help you work out the distance you need to cover to reach your destination.

The device is especially useful when you do not have access to electronic gadgets or the internet.
