UGEARS – Globus
The main module of the model consists of two parts: the globe and the platform with the mechanism. The globe sits on an axle tilted at the same angle as the Earth's axis. Like most Ugears models, Globus is driven by a rubber band motor. In this case, however, the motor uses a different winding method. Pulling a lever in the base clockwise once, all the way, fully winds the mechanism. As soon as the lever is released, the gears start working. To slow down the globe, Globus uses a pendulum reduction mechanism. But if you want it to rotate even more slowly, you can turn the globe by hand and watch the continents drift slowly past.
In addition to the main module, the model comes with two interchangeable extra modules: Shuttle and Sputnik.
Choose which satellite you want to circle your Globus today and simply attach it to the module's "arm".
The satellites are also driven by the rubber band motor and are connected to the main module via the planetary gear.
Because of this connection, the satellites rotate almost twice as fast as the globe and make almost two full turns per pull of the winding lever.
The model is easy to assemble, made of eco-friendly quality wood, and neither glue nor special tools are needed to build the globe.
